My Indoor/ Outdoor cat is scabby and has blood in her stool.?
She has seen our vet and this has been persisting since we found her (about a year ago). So, blood (red) in her stool and very scabby skin on mainly her 'torso'. She is long-haired, I give her olive oil in her fancy dry food although unfortunately she eats almost anything that may be edible, and recently (although it may just be her) I have noticed that she is pretty sweaty. Sounds bad, I know, but vets are just so darn expensive! This problem has been a year round thing too. It cleared up a bit (her skin) when she was given a new flea collar periodically but it is now winter and there is no need for that as well as no evidence of fleas.
Sorry, her skin clears up when a new collar is put on. The scabs worsen as the collar gets older.
I'm surprised the vet hasn't told you to lose the flea collar and get some proper flea treatment, like Frontline, Revolution or Advocate, or Advantage. Flea collars are SO crap at dealing with fleas - all they do is ward fleas away from the neck area, they're pointless.
Skin problems are often complex with no easy fix, but the absolutely essential first port of call is to ensure proper flea prevention is taking place, and it doesn't sound like this is currently happening. A year is also a long time - and if the vet hasn't told you to lose the flea collar, on top of that - might want to consider a second opinion!
