Any ideas on my 91Ford Probe transmission problem?
What happened was my b/f got in drove approx 100yrds. stopped,parked it,turned it off came back like 15 minutes late, started it(just fine) went to put it in reverse and nothing- the shifter moved but it was as if not engaged-I mean there are no gears engaging-the shifter will move into its proper spot but nothing happens ... I figured it was something either electrical-like some sort of switch-maybe the neutral switch- but hes a man and would have 2 hear it from a man -even though I have proved my mechanical knowledge before 2 him- this time its easier if he heard a plausible answer from someone else..So any ideas would help- its an automatic with turbo overdrive,not sure what other specs u might need in diagnosing this- by the way the tranny never slipped or had rough shifting- basically this problem surfaced unexpectadly -all out of the blue' pls help if u can.Thanks!
I agree with the broken linkage suggestion. Manufactures will put in these cheap little plastic pieces designed to break just to bring you into the shop. Probably isn't an expensive repair? You didn't mention the mileage of the car/tranny. If it has 200,000 miles on it and the fluid and filter have never been changed...now that's a different story???
